The Vale of York
The Vale of York is in Thirsk, a delightful North Yorkshire market town between the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. We are situated in the suburbs of Thirsk, within a 3-minute walk from Thirsk station and next door to Thirsk racecourse.
A Day at the Races
The picturesque country racecourse at Thirsk has excellent facilities and high-quality flat racing throughout the summer. The racecourse is a thoroughbred horse racing venue, the course is a left-handed oval of about 1 mile 2 furlongs with a 3 furlong finishing straight and a 6 furlong chute. Thirsk racecourse has 16 days of exciting racing, including five super Saturday afternoons, lots of summer events and family fun days. There is live entertainment during race days and not forgetting the event of the season, Ladies’ Day. We look forward to welcoming you to Vale of York for food drinks and accommodation.
Thirsk’s medieval market square is home to a variety of independent shops, bakers, butchers, flower shops, cafes and restaurants. Many shops still have their original frontages which gives the square a traditional feel. The town is crossed with snickets, ginnels and alleyways just waiting to be explored. There are numerous easy walks through the town and along the river or travel a little further to visit small pretty villages with sandstone cottages.
